Yes! Retractable clotheslines are highly versatile and can be installed in a variety of configurations, making them one of the most flexible clothesline options available.

The base unit is typically installed onto a wall and comes with a receiving bracket, which the clothesline clips into when extended. However, the receiving bracket can be installed on another wall, post, or any other secure surface, allowing you to set up your clothesline in several ways. The Clothesline with the use of a backing bar can also be installed in several different configurations.

Available installation configurations include:

- Wall to Wall
- Wall to Post
- Post to Post
- Post to Wall

This flexibility means you can create a free-standing setup if needed, without relying on a single wall.

It's generally not recommended to install a retractable or folding frame clothesline on fences (timber or colorbond), as the weight of wet washing can cause the fence to lean or become unstable over time.

A better alternative is to use a ground mount kit, allowing the clothesline to stand freely next to the fence.

That said, there may be exceptions. It's always a good idea to assess the fence's structure and suitability before installing your new clothesline.

A retractable clothesline post kit is useful if you want your clothesline, receiving bracket, or both to be free-standing.

The retractable clothesline can be attached to the post using a mount bar, and the receiving bracket can be connected to a wall or another post.

A mount bar is necessary if you're fixing
the retractable clothesline cabinet to a post instead of a flat wall.

The mount bar provides a flat surface for the clothesline cabinet to bolt onto, ensuring a secure and stable installation.

A ground socket is an optional extra, typically used with a post kit. It is concreted into the ground, allowing you to easily remove the post when the clothesline is not in use.

While you can use more than one socket, we recommend only using a single socket in an installation.

A post-to-post setup with two sockets can be unstable, so it's best to keep it to one socket for optimal stability.

The length a retracting clothesline can be extended varies depending on the brand. Each model has a maximum and minimum extended length, so it’s important to check these dimensions before selecting your clothesline to ensure it meets your space and drying needs.

Yes, it’s possible for the lines on a retractable clothesline to sag - especially when extended over a long distance with heavier items hung in the middle.

This is a natural effect of physics, not a fault with the clothesline.

To help minimise sagging, hang heavier items closer to the ends of the line and lighter items in the middle. Also, avoid leaving peg baskets or other items hanging on the line for long periods, as this can add unnecessary strain.

At the moment we are only allowing pickups for Austral branded clotheslines. Please contact our friendly support team if you'd like to arrange a pickup.
